Wakesurfing & Wakeboard Styles
Every surfer has their own riding style and choosing the right board for you is crucial to enhancing your time on the water. Different board styles include skim style, surf style, and hybrid.
Skim Style is designed for skateboard style tricks and spins. It is better for riding in the pocket and generally has a smaller fin that allows for spins, yet able to get you back on track while riding. The rocker is almost entirely flat and allows for better performance when doing 360s.
Surf Style boards allow you to easily move from the top, which is called the lip, to bottom and from the back of the wave to the front, meaning closer to the boat. Using the entire face of the wave allows you to ride further back and gain momentum. A surf style board will normally have either a box or fish tail that allows you to pop off the lip of the wave, doing airs and faster carves. A pointed nose or a more rounded nose will also determine the ideal length of the board based on the rider’s weight.
Hybrid Style boards combine both skim and surf style, allowing you to switch from a small single fin to two or more fins that will have a strong hold on the wave. This is ideal for riders who prefer to change up their riding styles to perform a variety of tricks rather than changing boards during your session.
